Sister to the wife of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has reportedly been kidnapped by suspected gunmen in Asaba, the state capital. The victim, who is identified as Elizabeth, is the immediate younger sister to the governor’s wife, Dame Edith Okowa, Vanguard reports. newnaijaupdate.com notes that report has it that the incident occurred along Temple Clinic junction close to the government house.
According to Sahara Reporters, the victim was said to be driving in her vehicle when she was abducted. An eyewitness said: “They shot sporadically into the air to scare away people. Out of fear, the lady, who was ordered to come out of her vehicle, jumped into their waiting vehicle.” A source at the government house said the family has been thrown into panic following the incident. However, the police in the state could not confirm the incident as at press time. In a message signed by his chief press secretary, Olisa Ifeajika, in Asaba, the governor thanked the people of the state for their resilience, patience, cooperation and support to all administrations that had governed the state in the last 28 years. He assured that his administration would continue to build on the gains recorded by his predecessors in order to create a stronger Delta. Felicitating with citizens of the state on the anniversary, the governor said: “Our beloved state has continued to blossom in spite of challenges confronting us as a people. “My administration appreciates Deltans for their resilience and peaceful co-existence among us.
“In the last four years that we have been on the saddle, we have continued to build on the gains recorded by our predecessors and I assure you that better days are here for all Deltans as we work towards building a stronger Delta of our dream
